Keele SU Welcome Home

6pm - late, Students' Union

KeeleSU welcomes you to your new home! The KeeleSU building will be open for you to choose how you wish to spend your evening and meet new people.  On the ground floor there will be free pizza, information stalls and console gaming, and on the first floor there will be free food tasters, team games for those feeling sporty, bingo for those who like a little competition and a film and popcorn if you prefer to relax and take it easy.

Welcome Conversations

9.30am - 10.30am

This interactive session will begin with a welcome to Recru it networ by Professor Mark Ormerod, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost. We will then discuss your Welcome, your expectations about learning and living at Keele and the international student experience.  We will be joined by current Keele students who will facilitate smaller group conversations to explore what it means to be an international student at Keele.

Living in the UK

10.30am - 11.30am

Welcome Conversations continues with our staff and current Keele students introducing you to ‘Living in the UK’.  There will be lots of practical advice and tips to help you feel at home as quickly as possible along with the opportunity to explore and share what may be different and what you may find is the same.

Living at Keele

11.30am - 12.30pm

The final session of Welcome Conversations introduces you to living on campus.  Get the essential information you need to make our Halls of Residence your home.  Meet the staff and find out from our current Keele students what it means to be part of the Keele community.

Information Market

10am - 4pm, Chancellor's Building Foyer

A variety of representatives will be available for you to find out about bank accounts, support at Keele, opportunities to explore the UK, and much more.

Undergraduate Enrolment

Enrolment for new international undergraduate students.

International Student Language Assessment

2pm - 4pm

This first assessment session is for undergraduate students with surnames beginning A-J and visiting student. This session is compulsory for non-native speakers of English.

Supermarket Shuttle

2pm - 4.30pm, Chancellor's Building Car Park

Join the ambassadors on a shuttle bus service to your local supermarket ‘Morrisons’ and don’t worry if you miss the first bus, they leave frequently. The last departure back to Keele will leave from Morrisons at 5pm. There will be further sessions of Supermarket Shuttle on Friday.

Welcome Session for Visiting Students – Compulsory for Visiting Students

A formal welcome from the Head of International Recruitment and Development followed by a session from the Global Education Team about academic arrangements and life at Keele.  There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Health registration

1pm - 5pm

In order to register with the National Health Service and receive treatment, you must be registered with a general medical practice near where you live.

Please note that this is a normal GP surgery and not a Walk-in Centre, therefore you will need to be registered to access an appointment. The registration forms can be downloaded from the health centre website www.keelepractice.co.uk. Please fill these in before you arrive as this will minimise the time taken to process your registration. If you have a medical condition, are undergoing treatment at the hospital, or are taking repeat medication please bring this information with you when you register.

Supermarket Shuttle

2pm - 4.30pm, Chancellor's Building Car Park

Academic Writing for Undergraduates – Language Centre Session

11am -12:30pm

Session for international undergraduate students only. Discover what is expected of you in your academic writing at Keele and what you should avoid doing.

Chapel Open Day

12pm - 6pm, Keele Chapel

The chapel will be open all day for you to meet the chaplaincy team who are here to support all students at Keele, of all faiths and none.

Chaplaincy Buffet

5.30pm - 7.30pm

There will be a free buffet in the Chapel with contributions from the chaplaincy team and members of the chapel community. All are welcome to come along. Food will be provided on a first come first served basis!

The Icebreaker Disco

8pm - 3am, Keele SU

If this is your first year at Keele, don’t worry. You’re not alone! Kick off Freshers Week with us at the Icebreaker Disco at KeeleSU where you’ll be sure to make plenty of new friends and celebrate the start of an exciting week.  The whole building will be open, with DJs playing all the best tracks from the summer in our main venues, and there will be lots of seasoned Keelites ready to welcome you to your new life at Keele!

Chapel Services

10.15am TEN:15 Service (Anglican/Free Churches): A lively, reflective, and inclusive service fusing elements creatively from different Christian traditions, centred on the Bible and Communion.

12.30pm Roman Catholic Mass: The Mass is celebrated each week by the Visiting Catholic Priest Chaplain according to the Ordinary Rite.

Rounders and Beach Sports

12pm - 4pm, Sports Centre

Who doesn’t love a bit of rounders or old-school beach games?  Throwback to the summer schools days and join the biggest game on campus! Bring your new flatmates or just come along on your own to make new friends whilst enjoying the game!

Quiz Night in Campus Bars

8pm – 10pm, Hall Bars

Head on down to your Halls Bar to join the Quiz. Don’t worry if you haven’t had a chance to meet enough people to make up a whole team yet, there will be teams created on the night.  This is a great opportunity to make some new friends in your Halls.

Comedy Night

Shows at 7pm and 10pm, Keele SU Ballroom

The first of this years comedy nights with a very special guest.

What better way to get to know your new friends then with a bit of competitive quizzing?  Past quiz themes have been Harry Potter, Friends, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.  Fancy dress is optional, it’s a quiz like no other with bundles of great prizes.

Bus Trips into Newcastle and Hanley

Our Student Ambassadors will be located outside the Students' Union to show you where the bus stops are, useful information about the bus services, and help you get orienated with the local towns.

Foraging Walk

Join Green Keele for a campus walk with a difference - you'll learn all about the flora and fauna of this beautiful campus and how to forage.

Glow Badminton

Another way to explore the Keele campus via your mobile phone... come to the info point in Chancellor's Building to register and pick up your first co-ordinate. There will be prizes for the fastest completed time as well as the best selfies on route!
